STRAIGHT FROM THE ISLANDS

Packaging projects are always hard to say “no” to — even when there’s barely enough time to take them on. This was one of those projects I would normally have to pass on, but the client is an amazing person, and I’ve always had a soft spot for packaging design. Plus, it was such a unique product.

Ternate is an island in Indonesia’s Maluku Islands, known for its rich volcanic soil that’s ideal for growing spices and herbal products. After trying it myself, I could confidently say the product was excellent.

This project was a lot of fun to work on and included logo design, branding elements, and packaging development. The pouches were direct-printed, while the labels were designed as editable templates that could easily be customized and trimmed with decorative scissors before application.

Overall, the timeline was incredibly tight, but thankfully we had a long road trip ahead of us and my wife was kind enough to take the wheel while I worked through concepts, revisions, and plenty of trial and error along the way post trip. In the end, the final result came together really nicely — and tasted pretty great too.
